Hayward TracVac Automatic Pool Cleaner: Track-Driven Suction Cleaning for Inground Pools

The TracVac uses patented tracks rather than wheels or a foot-seal design. Tracks provide improved traction and obstacle maneuverability, gliding over main drains, uneven surfaces, and pool geometry that causes standard wheeled cleaners to stall. The patented adjustable skirts maintain suction contact with the pool surface even when an obstacle is encountered by lifting over it rather than losing the seal. An external hose swivel allows the cleaner to turn freely without the hose tangling. The TracVac's compact size and light weight (under 6 lbs) make it easy to set up and remove. Connects to the existing pool pump through the dedicated suction port or skimmer with no additional equipment required.

TracVac vs. Wheeled and Foot-Seal Suction Cleaners

The TracVac's track system is its defining difference from other suction cleaners in the Hayward lineup. Wheeled cleaners rely on tire contact; foot-seal cleaners (Navigator Pro, PoolVac XL) rely on a suction seal between the foot and the pool surface. The TracVac's tracks provide broader contact with the pool floor and better obstacle clearance, particularly around main drains, uneven plaster, and pool geometry with steep corners or irregular transitions. It is compatible with all inground pool surface types and pools up to 20 x 40 ft, making it a strong all-around choice where obstacle navigation and ease of use are priorities.

Hayward TracVac Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the TracVac different from the Navigator Pro and PoolVac XL?

The Navigator Pro and PoolVac XL use a foot-seal design where suction between the foot and pool surface propels the cleaner. The TracVac uses patented tracks, which provide broader contact with the pool surface and better obstacle navigation, particularly over main drains, uneven surfaces, and tight corners that can stall foot-seal cleaners. The TracVac is also compatible with all inground surface types and larger pools up to 20 x 40 ft.

Will the TracVac climb pool walls?

The TracVac climbs walls on pools with sufficient floor-to-wall radius. It may not climb walls in all pool configurations, particularly pools with abrupt or near-vertical wall transitions. Check Hayward's installation guide for guidance specific to your pool geometry.

Does the TracVac work with a variable-speed pump?

Yes. The TracVac connects to the existing pool pump system. Set the pump to a speed that delivers adequate suction to keep the tracks moving consistently during the cleaning portion of the daily schedule.

My TracVac keeps getting stuck near the steps. What should I check?

A hose float placed at the section of hose closest to where the cleaner stalls will lift that section off the floor and change the cleaner's approach angle to the step area. Adjusting hose length by removing or adding one section can also shift the cleaner's working radius away from the problem zone.

Is the VacLock safety fitting included?

No. The VacLock safety fitting is sold separately. Everything else needed for installation is included in the box.
