Maintaining the Hayward W3S310T2 ProSeries 30-Inch Sand Filter

Backwash when pressure rises 8 to 10 PSI above the clean baseline. Run Backwash until the sight glass clears, Rinse for 15 to 30 seconds, then return to Filter. At 500 lbs of sand, backwash intervals at large pool volumes will typically be among the longest in the ProSeries lineup. Replace sand every 3 to 5 years.

First Startup: Loading Sand

Fill the tank halfway with water before adding sand to protect the lateral assembly. At 500 lbs, add sand in several gradual portions rather than all at once. Run a full Rinse cycle before switching to Filter to clear fine dust. Record the post-Rinse pressure as the clean baseline.

Winterizing the W3S310T2

Backwash thoroughly before shutdown. Drain the tank through the base drain and leave the plug out for the season. Set the valve to Winter to drain the valve body. In hard-freeze climates, blow out the valve with compressed air. At this tank size, confirming complete drainage is especially important before any hard freeze.
