Hayward PerFlex W3EC50C93S D.E. Filter System for Above Ground Pools
The W3EC50C93S bundles Hayward's EC50AC PerFlex extended-cycle D.E. filter with a 1.5 HP PowerFlo Matrix above ground pump, a platform base, and all the hose hardware needed to connect to your pool. The PerFlex design uses patented Flex-Tubes instead of rigid D.E. grids. When pressure rises, you stop the pump and stroke the bump handle to clean the filter; the Flex-Tubes flex and shed the loaded D.E., which redistributes and recoats the tubes. No backwash valve, no drain line, no fresh D.E. needed after each cleaning. A single D.E. charge lasts significantly longer than in a conventional grid filter because the powder is reused rather than flushed away.
The pump and filter are performance-matched at the factory, meaning the 1.5 HP Matrix pump's flow output falls within the EC50AC's rated range at typical above ground pool plumbing resistance. This matters: pairing an undersized pump with a larger filter leaves filtration capacity on the table; pairing an oversized pump can over-pressure the filter and compress service intervals. The W3EC50C93S removes that guesswork.

Hayward PerFlex W3EC50C93S D.E. Filter System Specifications
Hayward PerFlex W3EC50C93S D.E. Filter System Frequently Asked Questions
Is this for above ground or in-ground pools?
Above ground pools. The system includes a PowerFlo Matrix above ground pump and a modular platform base designed for above ground pool plumbing. It is not rated for in-ground pool use.
Does D.E. powder come with the system?
No. You need to purchase pool-grade diatomaceous earth separately for the initial charge before the system can be placed in service. Use only pool-grade D.E.; do not use food-grade, pest-control, or construction-grade products. Pre-mix the powder into a slurry before adding it to the filter with the pump running.
How do I clean this filter?
When operating pressure rises 10 to 12 PSI above the clean starting pressure, stop the pump and stroke the bump handle 8 times (down slowly, up briskly). The Flex-Tubes flex, shed the loaded D.E. cake, and immediately recoat. Restart the pump. No backwash, no fresh D.E., no disassembly. When bumping alone stops restoring pressure, drain the sump at the base of the filter housing. A full D.E. recharge is only needed when bumping and draining no longer restore acceptable pressure.
Can the pump be replaced with a variable speed pump later?
The included single-speed PowerFlo Matrix pump can be replaced with a compatible above ground pump at any time. Confirm that the replacement pump's flow output at normal operating conditions stays within the EC50AC filter's rated flow range.
D.E. is appearing in my pool. What does that mean?
D.E. returning to the pool means one or more Flex-Tube elements has a hole or seam failure. Stop the pump immediately, drain and open the filter housing, and inspect each tube individually. Replace any tube with a visible breach before restarting.
