Hayward Pro Grid DE Filter
The Hayward ProGrid is a vertical grid D.E. filter for residential in-ground pools. Diatomaceous earth powder coats the internal grid surfaces and captures particles down to 5 microns — finer than sand or cartridge filtration. Three models cover 36, 48, and 60 sq ft of filter area. A compatible backwash valve is required for installation and must be purchased separately; no valve ships with any ProGrid model.

Pool water enters through the top of the filter tank and passes through the pleated D.E.-coated grid surfaces, where particles down to 5 microns are trapped. Filtered water exits through the bottom and returns to the pool. As the D.E. cake loads with debris, operating pressure rises. When pressure climbs 8 to 10 PSI above the clean baseline, the filter is serviced through a compatible backwash valve — spent D.E. is cleared, and a fresh D.E. charge recoats the grids.
The one-piece flange clamp gives access to the full grid assembly for periodic deep cleaning and inspection without disturbing plumbing connections. Minimum vertical clearance above the filter is required for grid removal; see each product page for the specific clearance dimension.
Choosing the Right ProGrid Model
Match the filter's design flow rate to your pump's output at actual system operating head. The 36 sq ft model (W3DE3620) handles up to 90 GPM; the 48 sq ft (W3DE4820) up to 96 GPM; the 60 sq ft (W3DE6020) up to 120 GPM. A larger filter area means longer intervals between servicing and lower sustained operating pressure at equivalent pool sizes.
