FibroPool vs. Jandy

FibroPool vs. Jandy Heat/Cool Pumps | Breaking Down the Pros, Cons, & Pricing

When considering how to maintain a comfortable swimming pool temperature throughout the year, the type of equipment can make a world of difference. Here, we're comparing two popular brand products for heating and cooling your pool: the FibroPool Heater Chiller Full Inverter Series and the Jandy VersaTemp Heater/Chiller Pump.

Both types of dual purpose pumps can work to keep your pool at the perfect temperature, but they each have different strengths and might suit different priorities. In this post, we’ll dive into a comparison of these two heat pumps and discuss factors like performance, energy efficiency, and price.

Jandy VersaTemp heater chiller heat pump

Pros
  • Relatively high BTUs provide a heating/cooling option for larger pools
  • Decent energy efficiency
  • WiFi enabled with automation functionality
Cons
  • Expensive upfront cost of the heater
  • Limited warranty coverage on the heat pump and parts
  • Large and heavy unit dimensions limits installation flexibility

Jandy VersaTemp provides more powerful heating & cooling for larger pools...at a cost

The Pros:
The Jandy VersaTemp is an excellent option for pool owners looking to heat & cool pools larger than 20,000 gallons. The VersaTemp comes in three size options ranging from 103K to 130K BTUs. Jandy doesn't provide gallonage estimates for their heat/cool pump units, but more BTUs means more heat output. One of our comparable heat/cool units, the GulfStream HE 125 TA, is rated at 118K BTUs for pools containing about 20,000 gallons.

These units are graded with Coefficient of Performance ratings of 5.8 - 6.4, which is decent for a heater/chiller unit. Like all heat and cool units available in the USA market, the unit is primed for heating, not cooling.

Jandy VersaTemp heat pumps are also able to connect to WiFi and integrate with a pool automation setup, making installation with an existing pool ecosystem featuring other Jandy products very straightforward.

The Cons:
VersaTemp units are very expensive, and warranty coverage is limited compared to industry standards. These are pretty hefty, too- the smallest VersaTemp option weighs over 230 lbs, making installation more challenging.
Who is the ideal VersaTemp user?

Pool owners with moderate to large pools (20,000 - 30,000 gallons) who are looking for a Jandy product to easily integrate with an existing mostly-Jandy setup will enjoy the automation features, energy efficiency, and easy integration of the VersaTemp.

FibroPool Full Inverter Series Overview

FibroPool FH 285-i heat cool heat pump

Pros
  • Lightweight units with a small footprint make installation easier
  • Cost effective price point
  • WiFi enabled with automation functionality
Cons
  • Lower BTUs limit possible pool sizes (sized for up to 17,500 gallons)
  • Comparable but slightly lower efficiency (5.5 COP vs. 5.8 - 6.4)

FibroPool heat/cool units are energy efficient, cost-effective options for heating and cooling small pools

The Pros:
The FibroPool Full Inverter Series is all new for 2024. This series incorporates a variable speed system to self-adjust power output based on the climate conditions around your pool, which maximizes efficiency and minimizes wear and tear on the unit over time.
Like VersaTemp heat pumps, FibroPool inverter heat pumps can connect to WiFi and integrate with automation. This capability, along with the small size and low energy demands of the units, make installation easier and more flexible.
The cost effectiveness of these units is undeniable. FibroPool offers an excellent price point for a high quality product.

The Cons:
FibroPool full inverter heat pumps are graded with Coefficient of Performance rating of 5.5, which is comparable to- but lower than- the VersaTemp range of COP ratings. The BTUs are lower than the VersaTemp options, which limits the applicability of these units to larger pool sizes.
Who is the ideal FibroPool Full Inverter Series user?
Pool owners with small to moderate-sized pools (up to about 17,500 gallons) who are looking for a competitively priced, high-quality heating and cooling option to extend their swimming season will enjoy the performance and cost-effectiveness of FibroPool full inverter heat pumps.
